My journey into health and healing began when my eldest daughter (she is now 23 years old), was diagnosed with ALL leukaemia at the tender age of 9 months.  As ‘mums’ we feel every physical and emotional pain that our children feel.  I felt helpless.  I had no control.

 

I decided to do as much research as possible about how I could support my daughter’s recovery and healing.  Knowledge is power! I was very fortunate to have an oncologist who was happy for me to be proactive in her wellbeing.

 

I discovered ways to support her immune system, while the drugs were diminishing it.  It was throughout the next few years that I discovered the Innate Intelligence of the body – if we give the body what it needs to heal, miracles do happen.

 

Hippocratres, the Greek physician was born during the end of the fifth century BCE.  His famous words “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” are as relevant today as when they were first spoken.  We are homo-sapiens that have existed on our planet for over 200,000 years eating foods from plant and animal origin.  It is only in the last 70 years that processed foods have been introduced.  Chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and depression are at epidemic proportions in the West.  Lifestyle is a huge contributing factor of these conditions. It doesn’t have to be this way!

For many years I have been an active ally in eating real wholesome food and living life in balance – homeostasis – in my environment and in my lifestyle choices.  Wanting to formalise my qualifications, I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition ® (IIN).  Many of the lecturers at the Institute are world class leaders in health and wellness – Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr Andrew Weil, Dr David Katz and Geneen Roth.  I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques and innovative coaching methods.  My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching and preventative health.

I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness – how all areas of your life are connected.  Does stress in your job or in your relationships cause you to overeat?  Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising?  Is there no time in the day for you to do the things that you really love to do?  As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.

 

It is not about counting calories, or focusing on carbohydrates and fats, and good and bad foods. It is about creating a happy, healthy balanced life in a way that is flexible, fun and empowering for you. Together we will work to achieve your health and wellness goals in areas such as achieving optimal weight, reducing food cravings, increasing sleep, and maximising energy. You will develop a deeper understanding of the food and lifestyle choices that work best for you.

Integrative Nutrition™ Plate shows you the ideal plate at mealtimes, and emphasizes the importance of local and organic produce, whole grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats and water, proportion sizes, and integrating the primary foods™.
